OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Recovering drug and alcohol addicts were given a chance to celebrate Saturday.
The first annual Recovery Rally kicked off Sept. 25, and was sponsored by Ottumwa’s Substance Abuse Task Force, First Resources, SIEDA, and Substance Abuse Forces.
“This is an event that we just started,” said Brandon Parsons, participant. “September is recovery month and I’ve been in recovery for almost two years. I have had a slip, back in May, but it wasn’t a stumbling block for myself. I was able to jump right back into it and walk forward in the process of this journey.”
The day involved lots of food, fun family activities for all ages, and a dunk-tank, which Parsons was more than willing to give a try.
Parsons says the day was a great opportunity for recovering addicts to get out and support each other, and you don’t need alcohol or drugs to have a good time.
The Ottumwa Substance Abuse Task Force will soon host a Halloween dance at Ottumwa High School.
