BEVIER, MO. -- Two people had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a motor coach Sunday afternoon.

The Bevier Fire Protection District responded to a fire at 27352 Sunset Dr. just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fire Chief David Coleman says two people were trapped inside when firefighters arrived. Authorities were able to rescue them and both received medical treatment on the scene.

Coleman says the blaze began in the engine compartment and the motor coach suffered significant fire, water and smoke damage. Firefighters were not able to determine what started the blaze, but Coleman said it was not suspicious.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office was on the scene when our crew arrived, removing what appeared to be contraband from the motor coach. No one was available for comment at the sheriff's department Sunday.
