BONAPARTE, IOWA -- People flocked to Bonaparte, Iowa Sept. 18, for pounds and pounds of chocolate at Bonaparte’s Taste of Chocolate event.
How did the delicious event work?
“Well, they get to come in and get a box that has beautiful tissue paper in it and then they buy chocolate by the pound,” said Bonnie Cass, Main Street Director. “They get to pick out what they want and it's all hand-made by local volunteers. There are turtle bars, corn chip and chocolate bars, chocolate bon-bons, fudge, Oreo-chocolate cake, that's just to name a few."
Over 40 women volunteered to bake the tasty, bite-sized treats, which helped to raise funds for the Main St. Organization.
Cass explains her favorite part of the event.
“Just seeing how many different varieties of items there are made out of chocolate and watching people's expressions when they come in and when they open the door; to smell it when they open the door."
The smell was heavenly, but chocolate wasn’t the only thing being served up at the event. Right down the street, as part of the 10th annual Bonaparte Pottery Tour, Marilyn Thomas was giving tours of Bonaparte Pottery.
“She does an annual tour every year, the 3rd weekend in September and today they're down there doing hands-on demonstrations on how the pottery is poured and the slip-method,” said Cass. “Then, glazing; there are people actually glazing their own pieces, so you can come and do that yourself."
