WASHINGTON DC -- Thursday Congressman Dave Loebsack joined veterans from Southeastern Iowa at the World War II Memorial and presented them with flags flown over the Capitol. The veterans were on an Honor Flight. Honor flights provide an all expense paid, safe trip to Washington, DC for our WWII veterans so that they can visit our nation’s Capitol and the World War II Memorial that was built in their honor.
“Meeting Iowa members of the “Greatest Generation” and presenting them with a flag flown over the Capitol is a privilege,” said Loebsack. “The brave men and women who fought in World War II changed the course of history, and I was honored to take part in their trip to our nation’s Capital.”
The honor flights are all fully paid for, and the veterans are typically accompanied by volunteers who donate their time to ensure that the veterans have a safe trip. This group includes over 30 veterans. They left from Moline on September 15th and will return to Iowa on September 18th.
Loebsack is an avid supporter of our veterans. Last month he attended a fundraiser for a future honor flight in Tipton. Since being elected, Loebsack has worked to increase veterans’ health care and benefits funding by 70 percent and has worked to make sure that each and every veteran is treated with the dignity and honor that they deserve.
