OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Are you a senior citizen, looking for assisted-living?
The Ottumwa Good Samaritan Society’s Timber Ridge may be the place for you!
Open since March, the new building was honored with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a dedication and a prayer.
Director of Campus Housing Pamela Wilson says Good Samaritan runs off of the motto “In Christ’s love, everyone is someone,” and the society’s purpose is to show God’s love by providing shelter and supportive services.
“What we're now able to do is offer seniors an advantage of staying where they are familiar and as they need more assistance, so they can start out in the twin homes or the apartments as independent living, then move onto assisted living,” said Wilson. “Then, onto skilled nursing, should they ever need that, or perhaps need to go into our Alzheimer’s unit. So, they become familiar with the entire campus, which is 75 acres, and they can stay where they've already made friends.”
What can those interested in Assisted-Living expect?
"A one-bedroom or studio apartment,” said Wilson. “They will receive three meals a day and we clean once a week, we do their laundry and we're here for supportive services, so they get independent living with whatever personal supportive services they need. Perhaps medication management; they may need help with bathing, they could need help with dressing."
The new building will not be the newest addition to Good Samaritan’s campus for very long.
“We will be adding more apartments, 20 of them, and then at the same time, we will be adding a Community Center,” said Wilson. “The Community Center will have a pool and some little shops in it, a 36-seat theatre and some other large meeting rooms, so that will be nice for campus and we will also be able to invite groups in, to use those meeting rooms.
