OTTUMWA, IOWA -- As election season is underway, one topic that creating some controversy is the immigration laws.
We stopped by the Hy-vee south gas station in Ottumwa for viewer opinions if they would support a law in Iowa...such as that in Arizona
"I'd probably oppose,” Roger said. When asked why he responded, “Cause I’m Brown.” Roger fears this will exploit more racism.
"I think they will point out any brown person and be like, 'Oh, illegal, illegal, illegal, illegal.’ And really, I am half white so it don't matter. I don't have no card on me so what makes a difference for those that are really racist."
Leonard said he will leave that decision up to the lawmakers. He has nothing against anybody who is here legally.
"I think that as long as they're legal that's fine. Anybody who wants to work let them work," Leonard said.
Wes, said he would support something like that.
“It’s not as bad here as in Arizona, but if you have people taking jobs, and not paying taxes or getting free insurance…It's not fair to the Americans that were born here and their family has been her for 300 years or something like that. So I would support it."
We said he isn’t racist and doesn’t have problems with those that are here legally.
“I know a lot of nice Hispanic people. I have nothing against them. And who is to say they are even from Mexico? They could be from South Africa, I don’t know.”
