OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Seneca Area on Aging, Inc. hosted their annual senior forum in Ottumwa Tuesday.
This year they partnered with the Iowa Department on Aging to bring the 'Live Well, Plan Well' forum for the elderly and their families to hear.
Ro Foege, Director of Iowa’s Department on Aging, said these forums serve the elderly to help them protect themselves and make the best life financially and to ensure happiness. He said it is also important to have family members there to know what to do and help with the decisions.
Foege said elderly are commonly victims of fraud.
“There will be presentations today from the Attorney General’s office, from the Insurance Commission and from the Department on Aging about how people can avoid fraud, how they can plan on longer term care if that is what they need, how they can put together a plan so they can stay in their home as long as they want to,” Foege said.
Foege said they plan on making the presentations available on DVD in the future so they can reach more groups of people and get more word out.
“We just want people to be happy, and have happy lives,” Foege said.
