OTTUMWA, IOWA -- On September 12, 2010 at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in the 100 Block of North McLean. Upon arrival, officers learned that the assault had actually taken place at 708 North Elm Street in Ottumwa. The victim of the assault reported injuries to her face and head.
On September 12th at approximately 3:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a drive-by shooting in the 100 Block of North McLean. Upon arrival, officers found bullet holes in a vehicle at 117 North McLean and a house at 113 North McLean.
On September 12th at approximately 7:00 a.m., 24-year-old Andrew Burciaga of 708 North Elm was charged with the earlier assault. A search warrant was subsequently executed at his residence and a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun believed to be involved in the drive-by shooting was recovered.
Burciaga is being held without bond in the Wapello County Jail on the following charges:
- Aiding & Abetting / Serious Assault in violation of Chapter 708.6 of the Code of Iowa (Serious Misdemeanor);
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm in violation of 724.26 of the Code of Iowa (Class “D” Felony);
- Intimidation with A Dangerous Weapon in violation of 708.6 of the Code of Iowa (Class “C” Felony); and,
- Revocation of Parole.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
