OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Heartland Humane Society's annual Hogs 4 Dogs event took off Sunday.

An estimated record 300 people fired up their engines for a great ride raising money for the shelter.

The money raised goes into a special fund. Heartland Humane Society's Tammie Hartley said they may put it towards a spade and neuter program.

“This is our 7th year. Every single year we have grown. We started with 50 participants and every year we’ve increased. This is by far, way beyond our imagination,” Hartley said.

Hartley said they were planning for about 200 riders and they needed to make copies of paperwork to accommodate everybody. She is more than happy to have that problem though.
