KIRKSVILLE, MO --

The race is on for the District 18 Missouri Senate seat with two legislators vying for the spot.

State Representative Brian Munzlinger will challenge incumbent Wes Shoemyer.

KTVO spoke with both lawmakers about what sets them apart from each other.

“Truthfully probably the biggest is I don't believe that this is a time we should be raising taxes on our hardworking families here in Missouri,” said Munzlinger.

“No new taxes no matter what worked for awhile but things have changed. Ten years ago there were not the cell phones that we see today. Ten years ago the internet sales were not where they're at today. I think fairness demands that we start looking at those things,” Shoemyer said.

Shoemyer has a considerably larger amount of campaign money than Munzlinger.

Munzlinger says he is not worried about lobbyists hurting his campaign, and feels good about the election as it draws closer.
