NEAR CORYDON, IOWA -- Three drivers were killed in a fiery, three-vehicle crash in southeast Iowa.
It happened around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 2, four miles east of Corydon at 180th Street.
The Iowa State Patrol reported a tractor-trailer driven by Thomas Ryan, 59, of Osceola, Missouri crossed the center line and struck two oncoming vehicles.
The semi overturned and caught on fire. One of the other vehicles also burst into flames.
Killed in the crash were all three drivers, Edna Renee Downs, 56, of Seymour, Iowa, Kenneth Mathes Junior, 24, of Plano, Iowa and Ryan.
The patrol said Ryan’s Freightliner was eastbound on Highway 2, when it crossed the center line and hit Downs’ oncoming minivan and Mathes’ oncoming truck.
The minivan rotated counter clockwise and came to rest in the north ditch.
The semi and Mathes’ truck continued east into the north ditch.
The tractor-trailer tipped over on it side and caught fire.
Mathes’ truck also caught fire.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
