OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Labor Day marked the traditional start of the fall campaign season and KTVO wants to know how much attention you pay to the political scene.
KTVO’s Kisha Henry hit the streets to find out.
“Not very much,” said Dorothy Teague. “I just don’t like it.”
“Not really,” said 11-year-old Cierra Teague, although she says she is excited to get involved when she is old enough to vote.
“I pay a lot of attention, because it’s important,” said Karl Johnson. “It affects everything.”
“Very little,” said Cindy Stocker. “Most of them, they promise you all these things that you want to hear, just so you’ll elect them into the office and once they get into office, well they forget about everything they promised and they have to go by what the House and everybody else wants them to do. I just feel that it’s all wrong. They ought to stick to what they tell you they’re going to do for you.”
“Quite a bit,” said Shirley Conley. “As a senior citizen, you worry about whether Social Security is going to last through the years. You know, when you get in the golden years and you replace nothing, you just keep taking out of your savings, it’s a worry to you.”
“Absolutely,” said Charles Baird. “I’d like to see Obama out of there. I mean, he’s going to break us.”
“A little bit,” said Hal Brooks. “It affects you, your everyday life.”
“Not really, not very much,” said Curtis Thomas. “I just don’t feel there’s any politician out there that’s looking out for my best benefits. I think they’re all out there to make money for themselves.”
“Quite a bit, quite a bit, because I’m interested in the United States of America,” said Mary Sapp. “I’m an American and I’m a patriot, so I want things to be right here. There’s no place like the United States.”
