Motorcycle-car crash hospitalizes two

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- UPDATE:

The driver of the motorcycle, 29-year-old Shawn Hartman, of Ottumwa, was taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center immediately after the crash, and received orthopedic foot surgery for his injuries.

He was released from the hospital today, in stable condition.

Driver of the car, Karen Scalf, 37, of Ottumwa, was not injured.

A motorcycle meets car crash hospitalizes two in Ottumwa this evening.

A witness told KTVO the driver of the bike lost a toe and had another toe dangling from his foot. She said she is surprised his external injuries were not more severe.

The Ottumwa Police Department said there were two passengers on the bike. Both were taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Their names were not immediately available.

The driver of the car, a Dodge Charger, was Karen Scalf, 37, of Ottumwa.

The collision occurred shortly before 6:30 Sunday evening at the intersection of McKinley Ave. and Greenwood Drive.

The motorcycle, a Harley Davidson, appeared to suffer minimum damage. It suffered a broken mirror and some scratches.
