OTTUMWA, IOWA -- You can bring your pooch to the pool on Labor Day in Ottumwa.

The Beach Ottumwa is holding their annual Doggie Paddle Monday evening to help the Heartland Humane Society.

Starting at 6PM, you can enjoy the beach with your dog for the admission fee of one bag of dog food per dog.

To keep water safe against bacteria the dogs might bring, the Beach will increase the chlorine level to the highest legal limit.

“You know we have a dog park and our dog has been heavily used. People love their dogs so that's why we have this event. We try to accommodate everybody and keep everybody happy," said Ottumwa Parks Director Gene Rathje.

The Beach Ottumwa will be open on for regular swimmers Labor Day until 6 PM.  The Doggie Paddle runs from 6 to 8PM on Labor Day. The Beach will be open this Saturday and Sunday as well before closing for the season.

Dogs can only enter the wave pool and must be accompanies by someone 18 or older.
