OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Looking for something to do this weekend?
This Saturday, Sept. 4, in Ottumwa, art will stop traffic.
From 10 a.m. – four p.m., 3rd Street will be closed to cars, and instead, lined with artwork, food vendors and children’s activities.
The 3rd annual event will be sponsored by Ottumwa Main Street.
“[It] will take place on 3rd, between Washington and Market Streets,” said Cindy Woodbury, Executive Director. “It includes children’s’ activities, we have other non-profit booths, we have live entertainment and, as this point, we have 65 artists who are from five states and 11 counties in Iowa.”
Woodbury explains why they do sponsor this event.
“There was originally another art fair in the community, which disbanded in January of 2008, and we decided that this was too good of an event for the community not to have something going on, so we started the Walk on Art Street.”
Woodbury says this FREE event is something for the whole family, where you can view and purchase art from $5 - $500.
“There [will be] food vendors,” said Woodbury. “Bubba-Q's will be with us. There will be wonderful artists who are sculptors, painters, glass blowers, potters, paper artists and there are activities for the kids. There are other non-profits that we try and partner with to give them an opportunity to get their message out, so it really is a community-wide event.”
