JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- Missouri's tax revenues increased slightly in August but not enough to reverse declines from the previous month.

Figures released Thursday by the state Office of Administration show net general revenues rose in August by three-quarters of a percentage point compared to August 2009.

But revenues for the first two months of Missouri's fiscal year, which began in July, still were down about 1.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Although individual income tax collections rose 3.6 percent in August, they still were down 1.7 percent for the fiscal year. Similarly, sales taxes rose about one-third of a percentage point in August but remained down by nearly 4.2 percent for the fiscal year.
