MACON, MO -- After the expansion of a major highway, economic development is on the move in Macon. The Missouri Department of Economic Development has approved a $620,000 Industrial Infrastructure Grant for infrastructure improvements under the Community Development Block Grant program. Three companies will use the funds to expand in the Macon area.
"The companies have committed to 62 jobs between the three of them over a period of time which is great for the developmental aspect of the land” said Macon County Economic Development Spokeswoman Denise Bennett. “I think we're already starting to reap the benefits of Highway 36 completion."
Bennett said the three companies that plan to expand are Economy Products Company, Yutz Enterprises and Wyatt Enterprises.
“More businesses equals more jobs and that’s what we’re after and those jobs,” Bennett said. “As part of the enhanced enterprise zone program that these three are participating in and also the community development block grant which is where the funding came from for the road, require they provide insurance to their employees so they have good benefits and good wages.”
