Fatal crash goes unnoticed for 7 hours

NEAR ELDON, IOWA -- A fatal crash in Wapello County went unnoticed for over seven hours early Saturday morning.

The Wapello County Sheriffs office said a vehicle missed a turn, went off the road and struck a tree just outside of Eldon, Iowa.

They said the crash occurred around midnight Saturday but it was not until 7:30 that morning when someone spotted the wreck and reported it to authorities.

Authorities said a couple from Batavia was the only two passengers in the car. The husband was pronounced dead on the scene. The wife was transported to the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Department has not yet released the names of the victims.
