On August 13, 2010 the last three of five defendants were sentenced in federal court on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud. The charges were filed as the result of an investigation initiated by the Ottumwa Police Department in April 2009 involving an organized retail theft ring.
Joseph Alan Shafer, of Oskaloosa, Iowa was sentenced to three years in prison followed by two years supervised release.
Gretchen Christine Bacon-Starr of Kirkville, Iowa was sentenced to probation for a term of three years.
Margaret Marie Haines of Oskaloosa, Iowa was sentenced to two years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
