ST. LOUIS (AP) -- An international competition to redesign the Gateway Arch grounds in St. Louis moves ahead with the unveiling of five proposals to reshape the downtown riverfront.

The competition, sponsored by the National Park Service and a St. Louis private foundation, was announced eight months ago. The five proposals will be unveiled Monday, and will be on display at the Arch's underground museum until Sept. 24, when an eight-person committee will pick a winning design.

Planners want to redesign the 91-acre Arch grounds in time for its 50th anniversary in 2015. Also, a new Mississippi River bridge is scheduled to open by 2014.

Members of the five groups will make their cases to a selection panel during a hearing Aug. 26. The public is invited to attend but not allowed to take part.

The park service estimates the work will cost $305 million.
