Sign-up period for farm conservation program nears

COLUMBIA, MO. (AP) -- Missouri farmers can hear details of the 2010 Conservation Reserve Program at five meetings being held around the state this week.
   
CRP is a voluntary federal program that rewards farmers for setting land aside for conservation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced open enrollment in the program from Aug. 22-27.
   
The informational meetings begin Monday night in Columbia. University of Missouri Extension will hold the other sessions Tuesday in St. Louis, Wednesday in Kirksville, Thursday in Cameron, and Friday in Cass County.
