A reward is being offered for any information into the recent string of vehicle arsons in Ottumwa.
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Police Department and Fire Department is investigating a number of vehicle fires that occurred throughout the month of July.
"Out of the five fires, four of them were on the east end, one was on the south side. One of the fires intentionally set was to a lawn mower. At this time, there are no direct similarities that are linking the fires together," said Sergeant Becky Strunk of the Ottumwa Police Department.
She told KTVO that the vehicle fires during July have been ruled an arson, but a motive it is still unknown.
"At this time there are no links to it being gang-related...everything is under investigation and right now our Fire Department has out a reward and a tip hotline set up for the public," Sgt. Strunk said.
The reward, for information leading to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible, could be $500 or more depending on the information given.
