DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa's Alcoholic Beverages Division says sales of liquor and wine are on the rise, while beer sales dipped slightly in the last 12 months.
Industry officials in Iowa believe consumers are altering their buying habits by picking up more lower-priced products.
The state's alcohol division says preliminary figures indicate that liquor sales jumped nearly three percent in fiscal 2009, which ended on June 30.
Wine consumption jumped by more than five percent in the last 12 months, but beer sales dropped two percent.
Alcohol revenues increased 2.2 percent overall in fiscal 2009, and the alcoholic beverages agency will transfer nearly $100 million to the state treasury.
