KIRKSVILLE, MO -- As we come to the end of July, candidates running in Missouri’s August 3 primary are making their final pitch to get your vote.

Incumbent Adair County Prosecutor Attorney Matt Wilson is seeking to serve a full term in the position. Wilson tells KTVO that he’s the only true local choice for folks to vote for.

“I opened my practice here in Adair County.  I bought all of my campaign materials from people here in Adair County.  When I say I’m committed and I believe in the people of Adair County, I don’t just say it, I live it.  I believe in it and I will follow through.  That cannot be said about my opponent and that can be said about me.  So I ask people to look at who I am and what I have done.  Not just what sounds good, but what I have done," Wilson said.

Wilson started practicing here six years ago and says he closed his offices when he decided to run for prosecutor. He says that he’s already brought change to the office and hopes to bring more.

“Felony cases are being brought through the associate court through Judge Swaim, which it opens the process back up.  It allows the defense attorneys and the defendant to be more involded and does keep a balance in our system.  That is one thing. The other thing is working…opening up more doors of communication with the Adair County Sherriff’s office and Kirksville Police Department and really building that relationship," Wilson said.

Wilson also added that the office has gotten a grant to upgrade to a computer system that will allow them to cross-check every offender in a more efficient way. He tells KTVO that he has the type of experience that counts for this position.

“We’ve had statutory rape cases, we had domestic assault cases, we have other sex offense cases, drug cases.  In fact, the types of cases my opponent has stated on his website that he won’t represent those individuals.  So he doesn’t have that type of experience.  So what I bring to the table is a wide breadth of criminal defense experience in handling those cases and having that unique perspective.”

Wilson says he wants voters to go to visit his website and his competitor’s for a real comparison.
