BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities are investigating a tug boat operator's discovery of a body in the Mississippi River north of Burlington.

The Des Moines County sheriff's office said Tuesday the body was spotted floating in the river Monday afternoon on the Iowa side of the channel across from Oquawka, Ill.

Deputies recovered the male body near the Casey Barrow boat landing. Investigators say it appears the body had been in the water around two to three weeks.

Investigators say they're following leads on his possible identity. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The sheriff's office says no further information will be released until the identity is confirmed.
