DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa is considering more traffic cameras to catch speeders, not only on city streets but also on interstate highways.

Iowa is one of 10 states and the District of Columbia using the cameras to snap pictures of speeding vehicles, tracing owners through a computer database and mailing citations.

The Iowa State Patrol is looking at using cameras in work zones and other stretches of the interstates, but the patrol says there are no plans for the cameras statewide.

Cedar Rapids began using the first system on an Iowa interstate earlier this summer. Davenport has used cameras on city streets for several years, but not the interstates.

Muscatine and Des Moines are moving ahead with cameras too. Des Moines plans to watch Interstate 235.
