SULLIVAN AND PUTNAM COUNTY, MO. -- Two viewers e-mailed KTVO, complaining about terrible road conditions where they live.
One woman wrote about Putnam County Route F, calling it a "dangerous" road. She dubbed it "the worst road in north Missouri."
Fact Finder learned the blacktop has been getting a lot of extra traffic recently because it's being used as a detour while a bridge on Highway 5 is refurbished.
Adding to the problem, residents living on Route F tell us Premium Standard Farms has had tanker trucks full of hog waste running up and down the road a lot lately.
Resident Jerry Quigley said Route F is definitely hazardous.
"Some fool in a little red car, I don't know who it was, he was dodging all the little places because you normally would anyway, but you watch if you've got someone coming, and he was over on our side of the road," said Quigley.
Residents in Sullivan County paint a similar picture of Highway 139 between Newtown and Harris.
They also blame lots of big trucks hauling hog waste for PSF.
Fact Finder contacted MoDOT about our viewers' complaints.
Spokesman, Dale Niece, told KTVO MoDOT crews have been working on both stretches quite frequently, trying to keep them patched with cold-mix asphalt.
Road crews were actually working on Route F when KTVO was there Friday afternoon.
Niece said the extreme heat, plus lots of rain and lots of heavy traffic make repairing the road a losing battle.
