EDINA, MO -- A recent string of burglaries have some northeast Missouri residents shaking their heads in disbelief.  Four churches in Edina were broken into on Monday night.  One of the congregations, The Assembly of God, reported stolen jump-drives and an attempted break-in to their safe.  Assembly of God Pastor Rick Barnes said for some people, desperate times call for desperate measures.

“One of our board members said this is the first time this has ever happened, and they’ve lived here all their life” said Barnes.  “You’d think the big city, with the ratio of crime a little bit higher and more significantly than here but you know, look at the times we’re in, some people are pretty desperate.”

Barnes believed the robbers were specifically looking for cash.  He said one of the other churches reported a stolen computer as well.

Barnes said the churches that were broken into in Edina included St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, First Christian Church, Edina First Baptist Church, and the Assembly Of God Church.  A fifth church was also struck in Baring, Missouri.

If you have any information on the string of church robberies, you are encouraged to call the Edina Police Department at (660) 397-3251.
