HANNIBAL, MO. (AP) -- Cleanup continues in Hannibal, Louisiana and other areas of northeast Missouri after strong storms prompted flash flooding.
The storms early Tuesday brought up to 10 inches of rain in some areas of northeast Missouri, shutting down roads and forcing evacuations and car rescues.
Hannibal and Louisiana were particularly hard hit as the surge of water was more than drainage systems could handle. Several people had to be rescued in Hannibal, including 15 children at a day care center.
In Louisiana, thick mud got into several homes and businesses.
Forecasters say more storms are possible, and state emergency officials warn that could lead to more flash flooding.
