Car and semi collide, seriously injuring one

NEAR STOCKPORT, IOWA -- A Heartland woman suffered life-threatening injuries after pulling into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

It happened shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 16 just south of Stockport, Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol reports a car driven by Frances Elnore Dodds, 89, of Stockport pulled onto Highway 16 from Spruce Avenue and was hit by a semi driven by William Durflinger, 36, of Agency, Iowa.

Dodds' car was struck on the passenger side, completely caving it in.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene.

Dodds was transported to Van Buren County Hospital and later airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

A condition report was not available from the hospital.

Durflinger was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
