MEMPHIS, MO -- The Scotland County High School was packed on Thursday evening for Tri-County Electric Cooperatives 71st annual meeting. More than 230 members were on hand to listen to board members give annual reports and to hear what the future has in store. President John Eggleston briefed the audience on their plans to build a new building for their office.
“The board unanimously voted to build a new complex for our office building, for our trucks, we did this back in October” said Eggleston.
Eggleston said Tri-County Electric Cooperative purchased 15.4 acres of land on the west side of Highway 63, south of Highway 136 West. The building is expected to house a total of 24,514 square feet of work area. The total cost of the project is not to exceed $3.2 million.
The new building has been an ongoing controversy and may have cost two board members their positions.
At Thursdays meeting there were elections for three board members in three separate districts. Each director holds an office of three years or until their successor has been elected and has qualified.
In District 1 – Adair County, Incumbent Jeffery Brawner of Kirksville was defeated by Clinton Jerome of Kirksville. In District 2 – Scotland County, Incumbent George Frederick of Downing was defeated by Michael Small of Memphis. Finally, in District 4 – Putnam County, Incumbent Bill Triplett of Livonia was re-elected.
