OTTUMWA, IOWA -- An SUV crashed into a home Wednesday evening after an 8-year-old girl got behind the wheel.
As the SUV crashed through the porch wall and blocked the front door, it took out a support beam leaving parts of the house structurally unstable.
Kaylee Foster was babysitting at the time.
Less than two minutes earlier she and two children were playing on the porch.
She was in the kitchen when she heard a crashing noise.
“It sounded like a TV falling. I ran out there because we had two kids out there, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old and I thought the TV fell on one of them. I heard a girl scream and I ran out and I saw (the neighbor’s) Jeep in our porch,” Foster said.
The homeowner, Anna Olson was at the store at the time of the accident.
When Olson returned from the store, she found the neighbor’s vehicle protruding from her house. However, her first thoughts were not about the house.
“I am just glad that nobody got hurt. No children were injured or nobody else was injured. My house can be replaced, our children cannot be. That’s the only thing I care about,” Olson said.
Olson said there are no hard feelings between the two families. They could be seen talking and joking around Thursday afternoon.
The SUV remained on the porch until new support beams could be constructed.
