NEW YORK (AP) — The man who pleaded guilty to the failed Times Square bombing has offered an unapologetic and chilling account in court as to why he did it.

Admitted terrorist Faisal Shahzad says he trained with the Pakistani Taliban, then returned to the U.S. to avenge attacks on Muslims. Shahzad says he considers himself a Muslim soldier.

He says that until U.S. forces leave Muslim territory, "we will be attacking U.S."

Asked by the judge if he even considered that he would have taken innocent lives, including children, Shahzad compared it to U.S. drone aircraft in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says drones "don't see children, they don't see anybody. They kill women, children, they kill everybody."

He could face life in prison when he is sentenced in October.
