JEFFERSON COUNTY, IOWA -- Many heartland residents enjoyed a beautiful Saturday and some campfire cooking.

The Jefferson County Park held their third annual Dutch Oven Cook-off.

Fourteen teams gathered from across the state to compete and share recipes.

Visitors could purchase spoons at the door and sample all the food after it had been judged.

“The Jefferson County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is one of our sponsors and they help us throughout the year with a lot our programs, particularly programs dealing with kids and educating them on wetlands and water fowl and those kinds of things. The proceeds from this will go back to the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited,” said Jefferson County Park Host Ron Meyers.

The categories for Saturday’s competition were bread, deserts, a main dish, and a mystery dish. Teams were giving the mystery ingredient, pork loin, in the morning and created a dish accordingly.
