MASON CITY, IOWA (AP) -- Authorities say a Mason City man is now facing more serious charges in the alleged kidnapping of a local woman and the burglary of her home.
Trial information was filed Wednesday in Cerro Gordo County District Court charging 56-year-old Michael Jon Winters with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary in the June 7 incident.
First-degree kidnapping is a class A felony punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole. A conviction on a charge of first-degree burglary, a class B felony, carries a prison term of up to 25 years.
Mason City police say Winters was initially charged June 8 with second-degree kidnapping and second-degree burglary.
Cerro Gordo County authorities did not say Wednesday night whether Winters had an attorney.
