UNIONVILLE, MO. -- U.S. Cellular is helping teachers purchase classroom tools through the Calling All Teachers campaign.
The Putnam County High School Family and Consumer Sciences class received two new sewing machines for a total of $559.32.
Teachers could submit essays detailing their needs in the classroom.
“I just let them know how difficult it was to work with the old machines. They broke down quite often. We always need to replace needles or bobbins. They shared machines, didn’t have that many,” said Putnam County High School FCS Teacher Denise Christian.
Putnam County’s project was titled “Stuck in the 70’s.”
“The school was built in the 70’s and a lot of the equipment when I came here was still from the 70’s, earlier I think.. it just wasn’t up to par I believe that if you’re gonna teach family and consumer sciences just like any other area, you should have up to date equipment,” said Putnam County High School FCS Teacher Denise Christian.
Other local schools receiving funding were Scotland County Elementary School and Brookfield Elementary School. Scotland County was approved for two projects totaling $1,272.94 and Brookfield was the recipient of a $648.24 project titled “The Price it Right! Affordable Books for Families in Need.”
Last year the company funded 178 classroom projects in Missouri totaling over $94,000.
Teachers interested in funding can visit DonorsChoose.org to register. Then in the fall teachers can return to the site to list their project and find out more about the campaign.
