KIRKSVILLE, MISSOURI -- Press Release from Kirksville Police Department
The Kirksville Police Department, the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Adair County Drug Coalition, Preferred Family Healthcare, and ACT Missouri are teaming up to give people in Kirksville and the surrounding area a chance to get rid of their old prescription and over-the-counter medications. This is a statewide event, with substance abuse prevention professionals joining forces with 17 Walgreen's stores across the Show-Me State. Local law enforcement members will be on hand to collect the pills, liquids, or other medications in a safe, legal manner.
WHEN: Saturday, June 12, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

WHY: To get old, unused medications out of families' medicine cabinets to prevent prescription drug abuse (NO QUESTIONS ASKED)
Prescription drug abuse is a serious problem in many Missouri communities.
A 2009 nationwide study among American teenagers revealed the following:
. 1 in 7 teens, or 15%, reported abusing a prescription pain reliever
in the last year
. 63% of teens believe prescription drugs are easy to get from their
parent's medicine cabinet. That number is up from 56% of teens in 2008.
