TOWN AND COUNTRY, MO. (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon scheduled signing ceremonies Thursday for legislation aimed at helping Missouri children with autism and related disorders.

Nixon planned stops in suburban St. Louis, Springfield and Columbia to sign the bill requiring insurance companies to write policies that cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism.

The governor's office says the measure specifically requires coverage of a therapy called Applied Behavioral Analysis, or ABA. Nixon's office says experts believe ABA is a vital tool in helping children with autism and related disorders.

The bill requires insurance providers to cover up to $40,000 of the therapy each year for children until age 18.
