KIRKSVILLE, MO -- With agricultural crimes on the rise, farmers should be on the lookout. Rural communities are encouraged to be cautious and aware of any suspicious activity.
“Predominantly the types of thefts we see in agricultural communities revolve around thefts of livestock, machinery, fuel and anhydrous ammonia. So certainly this time of year is a good time of year to remind farmers and those members that live in those farming communities to be very alert,” said Brent Bernhardt, Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Farmers should keep count of their livestock and make sure farm equipment isn't left unattended in fields, especially near roadways.
If you see anything suspicious or out of place, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency.
