DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Turnout appeared to be light as Iowa voters went to the polls to choose a Republican candidate for governor and a Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.
Secretary of State Michael Mauro estimated 150,000 Republicans and 100,000 Democrats would vote in Tuesday's primary election. Iowa has more than 2 million registered voters.
Mauro says the Republican contest for governor is the biggest draw. Terry Branstad, Rod Roberts and Bob Vander Plaats are vying to face Democratic Gov. Chet Culver.

Republican races in the 2nd and 3rd congressional districts also are drawing attention, in part because so many are running - four in the 2nd and seven in the 3rd District.
Three Democrats - Roxanne Conlin, Tom Fiegen and Bob Krause - are seeking to oppose Republican Sen. Charles Grassley.
