FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Press Release from Fairfield’s Parks and Recreation Department
The “Bark for a Park” 5k Fun Walk was held on May 22, 2010 at Jefferson County Park and brought in much-needed funds for the future Fairfield Off-leash Dog Park. “We’re getting closer and closer to raising the funds for the fencing and drainage work needed to make the park a reality,” said Derik Wulfekuhle, Director of Fairfield’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The Fun Walk was attended by a variety of dogs and their people, with the weather cooperating beautifully. Kelly Foreman, an Off-leash Dog Park committee member, said, “We were surprised that there were even families who came without dogs, just to show their support of an Off-leash Dog Park.” As for the canine walkers, there was a large array of breeds represented, with plenty of treats and water for all.
Off-leash Dog Parks are very popular all over the world, and are places where dogs and their owners can go to socialize in a safe but relaxed environment. Committee members remind people to be on the lookout for future fundraisers, and to visit the Dog Park table at First Fridays Art Walk each month.
Those who would like to make a donation toward the Fairfield Off-leash Dog Park can send or take tax-deductible donations to the Fairfield Parks and Rec Department, c/o Derik Wulfekuhle, 1000 W. Burlington Ave. in Fairfield. Please indicate that the donation is for the Dog Park.
