If you need to beat the summer heat, the community action agency is there to lend a hand.
Low income households can now apply for cooling assistance as part of the Energy Crisis Intervention Program.
“You'll need to actually have a disconnect notice to receive the benefits that we offer through Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency. It is only a crisis component of our program, so you would have to bring your disconnect notice over to one of our service locations,” said Mindy Garrett, Emergency Services Coordinator.
If this is your first time getting energy assistance, you'll also need to provide proof of your prior month's income, and social security cards for everyone in the household.
You can get up to $300 paid directly to your energy supplier, but it applies to electric bills only.
Air conditioners are also available for those 65 and older or with life threatening illnesses.
To apply just stop by the NMCAA at 20 Devlin Place in Kirksville.
