KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The case review for a northeast Missouri dentist has again, been delayed.  In July 2008, Dr. Arnold “Steve” Barber, 71, was charged with two felony counts of tampering with a witness in connection with the sexual felony case of longtime Kirksville attorney Tom Oswald.  Court documents indicate Barber offered the parents of the alleged victim in the sodomy case $150,000 to withhold information as a witness.

“Obviously, we're not interested in dismissing the charges upright at this point” said Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson.  “We would rather continue the case and see if he is going to be competent and capable to see if we can proceed to trial or disposition.”

Barber was scheduled for a case review on Monday when it was announced in court that he was medically unable to assist in his defense after suffering a second stroke on Saturday, May 8.  Barber has since been released from the hospital.

Wilson said another case review has been scheduled for November 15.
