JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- Missouri's unemployment rate declined slightly in April while the state added 14,800 jobs.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development reported Tuesday that the state's unemployment rate declined by one-tenth of a point to 9.4 percent in April. Some of the biggest job gains were in sectors for leisure and hospitality, administrative and support services and manufacturing.

State officials say employment traditionally improves in April because of better weather for construction, tourism and other weather-sensitive jobs.

The biggest job losses last month came in government employment, because of fewer temporary census workers.

Missouri's unemployment rate has hovered around 9.5 percent since last May.
