BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Members of Burlington's only Jewish congregation are dealing with a case of vandalism.

Someone defaced their temple's sign with red paint over the weekend. The graffiti was discovered Sunday by Temple Israel member Ruth Stein.

She says she has no idea who is responsible or why they did it.

Temple Israel has about 20 members.

The vandalism took place sometime between Friday night, the last time Stein was at the building, and Sunday morning.

Burlington Police say they were unaware of the vandalism but would investigate.

Stein says she and her husband, Irvin, plan to paint over the graffiti on Monday.
