A Schuyler County road is reopened after a box culvert is repaired.

Three miles west of Route A on Schuyler County Route D the pavement collapsed just as a pickup truck driven by 31-year-old Philip Padget of Tyler, Texas crossed over the road Wednesday evening.  Padget’s passenger 32-year-old Jody Jones of Rutledge drowned in the accident while trying to get out of the vehicle.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reopened the road to traffic Saturday evening.

MoDOT had closed many secondary routes last week due to flooding.  Some have reopened but many remained closed.  You can find a list of closures at Heartland Connection dot com.

The Chariton River near Novinger has receded significantly since Thursday.  As of 5:00 p.m. Sunday the river stage is 8.39 feet, well below the flood stage of 20 feet.

The Des Moines River at Ottumwa is just below flood stage at 9.35 feet.  Flood stage is 11 feet.   Both of those rivers are forecasted to remain below flood stage through this week.
