KIRKSVILLE, MO -- On Tuesday evening, the Kirksville R-III Board of Education held their regular meeting in the districts administration building located on Hamilton Street. With the school year coming to an end on May 28, students, parents, and teachers are still not sure what to expect for summer school. Fortunately, Superintendent Patrick Williams had good news to share.
“There are two bills that are currently in the legislature that would fund summer school” said Williams. “One funds an entire summer school program and one puts a cap on summer school funding.”
Although it is still uncertain what the outcome will be, Williams said there was at least a breath of hope for the summer school program.
“If the bill of the cap is reached, it would affect our district by about half of our funding” said Williams. “This would cause the program to be focused solely around core classes such as math, history, and science.”
A final decision must me reached by Monday, May 17, at 6:00 p.m.
