FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- The Sustainable Living Coalition is working to create an edible environment in the Heartland.
They are hosting their second annual Edible Cityscapes Sale in which they are selling fruit trees, berry bushes, and other plants.
They are selling the trees, for $15, or roughly three-to-four times below market value.
“The whole idea is to get more fruit trees and berry bushes into our environment, into our living space, our yards, our schools, our office space, everywhere that we can,” said Hap Mullenneaux of the Sustainable Living Coalition.
Organizers want the sale to bring an ever present reminder of nature’s abundance.
After the first weekend of the sale Mullenneaux said they have outsold last year’s total and will be placing a re-order this week to bring supplies back to the starting level.
They are selling three types of apple trees, three types of pear trees, two types of cherry trees, two type of peach trees, and a plum tree. They are also selling blackberries, gooseberries and serviceberries.
The sale continues May 15-16 from 9-5 both days. Items will be on a first come first serve basis, and Mullenneaux warns to come early as they ran out of a many plants this weekend.
