Kirksville police tell KTVO that they have noticed an increase in reports of scam attempts at getting financial information or money from area residents.

Our Fact Finder team learned that there are several things you can do to help protect yourself from scam artists. Some things to look for to protect yourself include, email address and contact phone numbers that are outside the United States, also, people asking you to send money to them via Western Union or other similar electronic method. Fact Finder reminds you to remember the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The Federal government has set up a website you can report scams to. You can find a link to the website by logging onto heartland connection dot com.
