OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Iowa’s June 8, primary is quickly approaching and voting is already underway.

For those gone or are unable to vote at the polls, absentee ballots offer a great alternative.

Any registered voter can request an absentee ballot in Iowa through the Secretary of State’s web site or by visiting their County Auditor’s office.

“They can just write on a plain piece of paper that they would like to request an absentee ballot for the June 8th primary election and they need to tell us what type of ballot they want, Democrat or Repbulican, we need their name, address, date of birth, mailing address if different than their home address, and their signature,” said Wapello County Auditor Kelly Spurgeon.

Polling stations are also currently set up at the Auditor’s office for those not wanting to mail the ballot on.

“The last day they can request a ballot to be mailed is the Friday before the election. They can still absentee vote in our office clear up to the day before the election,” Spurgeon said.

As of Wednesday in Wapello County, 247 absentee ballots have already been requested.

Any mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 7.
